1939 Mercy Dinner, The United Jewish Appeal, and The United Jewish Campaign

One of Sadie Kramer’s important contributions to Malden’s Jewish Community was helping organize the United Jewish Appeal’s Mercy Dinner in 1939. At that time Sadie Kramer served as chairman of the Combined Jewish Appeal Women’s Division for several years. The Mercy Dinner marked the opening of UJA’s United Jewish Campaign, a charity drive aimed at raising funds to provide aid for Jewish issues around the world. With around 1400 guests, the Mercy Dinner was the city’s largest Jewish gathering.
