New Database: Nineteenth Century Jewish Organizations in Massachusetts

The American Jewish Historical Society-New England Archives is working on creating a new database: Organized Jewish Group Activity in 19th Century Massachusetts. The information in the database was originally compiled in 1979 by Nathan Kaganoff, Martha Katz-Hyman, and Michael Strassfeld. The goal of the project was to list all of the Jewish organizations that existed in Massachusetts up to the year 1900 and indicate, where possible, their founding date, length of operation, meeting location, purpose, and prominent members and officials. This will be a free database, accessible either from our website or the NEHGS website. Historians and genealogists will find this database an important tool in Jewish research. We hope to have public access in the next few weeks.
